Ever since he took the checkered flag for the 102nd Indianapolis 500 with a shout of joy, Will Power’s life has been a blur.
In between and after his remaining IndyCar Series races in 2018, Power spent time on media tours in North America and his native Australia. He also had increased sponsor commitments as an Indy 500 winner. Plus there’s more attention from fans due to his breakthrough first victory in “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” with Team Penske.
Next Power will bask in the glory of one of the greatest spoils enjoyed by every Indianapolis 500 winner – seeing his likeness revealed in sterling silver bas relief on the Borg-Warner Trophy.
Power will unveil his face on the most famous trophy in motorsports during a ceremony that starts at 5 p.m. (ET) Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the IMS Museum. The public is welcome, with admission $10 for adults, $5 for youth 6-15 and free for children 5 and under.
IMS President J. Douglas Boles and BorgWarner executive Michelle Collins will assist Power in the unveiling.
Other special events during the unveiling will be a performance by Doug Hardwick of the Indianapolis 500 Gordon Pipers and the presence of sculptor Will Behrends, who has carved the likeness of every Indianapolis 500 winner on the Borg-Warner Trophy since Arie Luyendyk in 1990. This will be the first time Behrends has attended the unveiling ceremony.
