All three levels of the Mazda Road to Indy will be on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course this weekend for the fourth annual Chris Griffis Memorial Open Test.
The test, which provides teams with a chance to shake out cars and drivers for their 2015 programs, is open to public viewing from the Turn 2 viewing mounds and South Terrace grandstands.
The Indy Lights, Cooper Tires USF2000 and Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires will all participate. In Indy Lights, Verizon IndyCar Series driver Josef Newgarden will take demonstration laps on Saturday in the Dallara IL-15 prototype, while Parker Kligerman will drive an Indy Lights car for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports with Curb-Agajanian.
For Kligerman, 24, it will be his first opportunity in an open-wheel car in eight years. He drove earlier this year in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
“I’ve always looked for opportunities that can further my career, so I want to thank Sam [Schmidt] and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports for this opportunity in Indy Lights,” Kligerman said. “Although it will be a challenge, I’m looking forward to having fun and working with a championship-caliber, open-wheel team.”
Austin Cindric, son of Penske Racing president Tim Cindric, will drive a Pro Mazda Championship car for Juncos Racing.
The test is named for Chris Griffis, a former Schmidt Peterson Motorsports team manager who died in 2011.
