Johnson has cited fellow Californian Mears as one of his racing idols, as both started their auto racing careers in off-road racing before moving to asphalt. Johnson will attempt to join Mears as a four-time winner at IMS on July 25 in the Brickyard 400, which he won in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
