2025 Green Flag Relay

Last year’s Green Flag Relay was the first since FOX became the exclusive broadcaster of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, and it did not disappoint. The 2025 relay engaged drivers, partners and race fans alike to garner excitement for the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge.

From Bourbon Street in New Orleans until finding its way home to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Green Flag voyaged around the country in 2025.

1,922 Miles

While it kicks off a 500 mile journey on race day, the Green Flag was able to cover a total of 1,922 miles in 2025.

The Green Flag started its journey to the 2025 Indianapolis 500 on February 10, 2025 before wrapping up the journey on May 25, 2025.

STOP 1: BOURBON STREET

February 10, 2025
New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

Team Penske's Josef Newgarden, winner of the 2023 and 2024 Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, brought the Official Green Flag down to Bourbon Street for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. In a weekend where every eye in sports was on New Orleans, Newgarden made sure the Green Flag had it's moment.

 

STOP 2: FOX AND FRIENDS IN THE BIG APPLE

New York City, New York, USA

Andretti Global's Kyle Kirkwood and Colton Herta visited Fox Square for a segment on "Fox and Friends." Just before the start of the inaugural season of INDYCAR on FOX, both drivers shared what makes the NTT INDYCAR SERIES a thrilling ride for fans to experience, as well as what specifications allow for the car itself to exceed speeds of 240+ mph.

STOP 3: AT THE BALL PARK IN DETROIT

Detroit, Michigan, USA

Ahead of the Detroit Grand Prix, the Official Green Flag was in town and made a stop at Comerica Park. A young Detroit Tigers fan helped get the game started and build anticipation for the Indy 500 and Detroit Grand Prix.

STOP 4: SPECIAL DELIVERY

May 25, 2025
Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

For the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, an IU Health LifeLine helicopter transported the Official Green Flag to Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Chris Arvin, a trauma patient at IU Health, with his wife Kim by his side, took the flag for a lap and then delivered it to the Yard of Bricks where it eventually signaled the start of "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing."
