Local Indiana favorite Ed Carpenter led the field from pole position for his second consecutive year. The race saw American Ryan Hunter-Reay hold off three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves in the closing laps by 0.0600 seconds, the second-closest finish in Indy 500 history
