On Wednesday night, a few thousand people gathered on Georgia Street in downtown Indianapolis for Downtown Indy's New Year's Eve Celebration brought to you by The Indiana Union Construction Industry. Verizon IndyCar Series driver and two-time Indianapolis 500 pole winner Ed Carpenter was on-hand to help lead a very special New Year’s Eve countdown.
An Indy car was used in place of a traditional "ball drop" for the city's inaugural public NYE event. In true Indy fashion, an actual Indy car presented by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Verizon IndyCar Series was suspended high above the Georgia Street stage and descended for the final seconds of 2014, ushering in the New Year with an epic, adrenaline-packed moment for Indianapolis.
