The Month of May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will again be filled with the roars of engines from the cars and stars of the Verizon IndyCar Series in 2017.
Today, the series released its full 2017 schedule and it includes the iconic 101st Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil on May 28 and the fourth annual Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis on May 13.
“This past May was unforgettable, beginning with the Angie’s List Grand Prix on the road course to the 100th Running of the Indy 500,” Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles said. “In 2017, IMS will once again be the place to be during the Month of May. We’re counting down the days until cars are on track and cannot wait to again host the greatest race fans in the world.”
The 100th Running of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” three months ago lived up to the billing as a sold-out crowd enjoyed beautiful weather and a race featuring 54 lead changes, second-most in history. The surprising winner was Alexander Rossi in the No. 98 NAPA Auto Parts/Curb Honda for Andretti Herta Autosport with Curb-Agajanian, coasting across the Yard of Bricks on an all-but-empty fuel tank to become the 10th rookie winner and first American rookie champion since Louis Meyer in 1928.
Two weeks earlier, on the 2.439-mile IMS road course, Simon Pagenaud won the third Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis from the pole in the No. 22 Menards Team Penske Chevrolet. He continues to sit atop the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series points standings with three races remaining.
Tickets for all 2017 events will go on sale later this year.
