Logan Sargeant has raced on some of the world’s premier circuits. On Sept. 21, he’ll add another storied venue to his résumé: Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Sargeant (photo, above, courtesy Meyer Shank Racing), a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, will join PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports’ Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) lineup for the final two rounds of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Michelin Endurance Cup. As part of the announcement last month, the team confirmed Sargeant will race at IMS and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

He will drive the No. 52 ORECA LMP2 07 in the TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks at IMS and the season-ending Petit Le Mans in Georgia.

The opportunity to compete at Indianapolis is a bucket-list moment for Sargeant, 24.

“I’m super excited to be jumping back into a car for the last two LMP2 races in IMSA with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports,” Sargeant said. “It’s a great opportunity to drive at two special tracks -- Indianapolis and Road Atlanta. I’m eager to contribute to a successful couple races for the team and bring my knowledge and experience to everyone involved.”

Sargeant first made headlines in 2015, becoming the first American since 1978 to win the FIA Karting World KF Junior Championship. From there, he followed the traditional European open-wheel path, climbing from FIA Formula 4 to Formula 3, then Formula 2, before reaching Formula One, where he drove for Williams Racing during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

While in F1, Sargeant made history again, becoming the first American in 30 years to score a championship point by finishing 10th at the 2023 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

Despite that milestone, Sargeant’s F1 tenure was brief. After two seasons, Williams Racing parted ways with him. He tested NTT INDYCAR SERIES machinery with Meyer Shank Racing last November at The Thermal Club but did not secure a seat. Sargeant then took an extended break from racing before getting the call for this IMSA opportunity, one he approaches feeling refreshed and ready.

Sargeant will look to help PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports climb the LMP2 standings, where the team sits 10th in owner points. The No. 52 team began the season strong with a third-place finish at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, driven by Ben Keating, Mathias Beche, Rodrigo Sales and Benjamin Pedersen, but has since managed just one top-five finish -- a fifth place July 13 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Team Principal Bobby Oergel is optimistic about Sargeant’s impact.

“Myself and all the crew here at PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports are very excited that Logan is able to join us for the last two endurance events of this season,” Oergel said. “I am sure Logan’s pace will be top-notch, and everyone will work well together. We really want to welcome him into our team in a smooth and easy fashion.”

Sargeant will share driving duties in the six-hour endurance race on the IMS road course with Naveen Rao and Pedersen.

Sharing a seat is an aspect of sports car racing that’s new to Sargeant but beneficial. In European formula racing, the focus is often on outperforming your teammate, with constant comparisons based on qualifying and race results. But in sports car racing, teammates share a car and collaborate closely.

Pedersen could help shorten Sargeant’s learning curve with the 14-turn, 2.439-mile circuit at IMS due to his INDYCAR experience. Pedersen, 26, made 17 starts in the 2023 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season with A.J. Foyt Enterprises and was a full-time driver in INDY NXT by Firestone in 2021-22.

The Dane’s standout performance came at the 2023 Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. He was named Rookie of the Year after qualifying 11th. His four-lap average of 232.671 mph made him the second-fastest rookie qualifier in Indy 500 history at the time, trailing only Tony Stewart — a record since eclipsed by Kyle Larson (232.788) and Robert Shwartzman (232.790), with Shwartzman claiming the NTT P1 Award for the 2025 Indy 500.

“I’m really excited for the last two rounds and to welcome Logan to the team,” Pedersen said. “We’ve found a lot of speed in the car lately, and our full focus for the final rounds is 100% on getting a win.”

The TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks weekend will be a three-day festival (Sept. 19-21) showcasing the pinnacle of sports car racing. With 18 different manufacturers competing in IMSA and unparalleled fan access to the garage area throughout the weekend, race fans can get close to their favorite cars, drivers and teams.
