Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Arie Luyendyk will serve as the honorary grand marshal for the annual USAC.25 Battle At The Brickyard quarter-midget event July 5-8 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
This year’s event has close to 500 entries descending upon IMS from all over the country, making it the largest in USAC.25 Series history. Luyendyk is scheduled to be at the race at approximately 5 p.m. Thursday, July 5.
Luyendyk won the famous Borg-Warner Trophy twice at IMS, in 1990 and 1997. He still holds the one- and four-lap qualifying records for the Indianapolis 500 and serves as a race steward for INDYCAR.
This is the fifth of eight races that comprise the 2018 USAC.25 series national schedule. The season started in February at Daytona International Speedway, where more than 340 kids from all across the country came to compete.
With at least 40 USAC.25 clubs located across the country, thousands of kids ages 5 and up, along with their families, participate in USAC-sanctioned quarter-midget series events. Some notable NASCAR and INDYCAR graduates of quarter-midget racing include Jeff Gordon, Joey Logano, Ryan Newman, Ed Carpenter, Sarah Fisher, Harrison Burton and Alex Bowman.
