Michigan native Carson Hocevar broke through for his first NASCAR Cup Series win this season and looks to return to Victory Lane in the Brickyard 400 Presented by PPG on Sunday, July 26, but he also would love to try the Indianapolis 500 someday.

Carson Hocevar has arrived on NASCAR's biggest stage.

The 23-year-old from Portage, Michigan, earned his first NASCAR Cup Series victory April 26 at Talladega Superspeedway, validating the talent that had long turned heads throughout the garage. But after celebrating the biggest win of his career, Hocevar's thoughts quickly turned to another iconic venue: Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Brickyard 400 Presented by PPG on Sunday, July 26 is more than another race on the NASCAR calendar. For Hocevar, Indianapolis is the track that fueled his childhood dreams and remains the place where he hopes to accomplish one of motorsports' greatest challenges.

Hocevar has never hidden his admiration for IMS, often calling the Indianapolis 500 "by far the coolest race" and saying the Speedway is his favorite venue in racing.

Born about 200 miles north of Indianapolis, Hocevar grew up immersed in Midwestern racing culture. An avid simulator racer, he spent countless hours turning virtual laps around the famed 2.5-mile oval, developing an appreciation for the Speedway's history, traditions and legendary champions.

His connection to Indianapolis also is rooted in the Month of May.

"I was a big Bryan Clauson fan," Hocevar said of the multiple USAC champion who made three Indianapolis 500 starts. "Any time anybody mentioned 'The Double,' I thought about running the Indy 500 and running (at) Kokomo Speedway on the same day. The Coca-Cola 600 wasn't in my cards of what I thought I could accomplish as a kid."

Clauson's relentless pursuit of racing, from dirt tracks to Indianapolis, left a lasting impression on Hocevar. That admiration helped shape his appreciation for the Speedway and the unique atmosphere surrounding the Indianapolis 500.

As Hocevar's NASCAR career progressed, the dream became more tangible.

When the Brickyard 400 returned to the oval in 2024, he finally raced on the same track he had spent years studying. He finished 12th in his debut and improved to 10th in 2025, results that reinforced his belief that Indianapolis is a place where he can contend.

His appreciation extends beyond race weekend. Hocevar has made multiple trips to IMS during May to watch NTT INDYCAR SERIES practice, soak in the atmosphere and experience traditions that make the Indianapolis 500 unlike any other event. He even attended Miller Lite Carb Day, taking in the anticipation before the world's largest single-day sporting event.

That passion naturally has led to questions about whether Hocevar could someday attempt "The Double" by competing in both the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.

Only a handful of drivers have attempted the feat. While transitioning from a NASCAR stock car to an INDYCAR SERIES car presents significant challenges, including fitting comfortably into the cockpit at 6 feet, 4 inches tall, Hocevar hasn't ruled out the possibility. Drivers of similar stature, including Justin Wilson, have competed successfully in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.

For now, Hocevar's focus remains on building his NASCAR career. His breakthrough victory at Talladega elevated his profile and reinforced his status as one of the sport's rising stars.

The opportunity also may be more attainable than it once seemed. Hocevar drives for Spire Motorsports, an organization with ownership ties to Andretti Global. While there are no plans for an Indianapolis 500 effort, opportunities in motorsports can develop quickly.

Until then, every trip to Indianapolis serves as another chance to live out a childhood dream.

"It's really fun for me to come here," Hocevar said. "I've been living vicariously cosplaying as an Indy 500 driver every time I run the Brickyard 400 here. I get to act the part a little more.

"I would absolutely love to do it one day and enjoy it."
