Dario Franchitti proved yet again that winning the Indianapolis 500 is a great barometer for capturing the IZOD IndyCar Series championship later that year. Franchitti became the fifth driver in the last six years to win the Indianapolis 500 and the IZOD IndyCar Series title in the same season by capturing the championship by just five points over Will Power in the Cafes do Brasil Indy 300 on Oct. 2 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He won the Indianapolis 500 on May 30.
