Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb welcomed fellow members of the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board to the Hoosier State on Wednesday, Dec. 4 with a perfect first stop – a visit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Leading the delegation at IMS was Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump and her board co-chair, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.
The group toured the facility, seeing the Yard of Bricks and the Victory Podium while also checking out the famed Borg-Warner Trophy presented to the winner of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. Several Indy cars also were on display for the group.
Trump and several members of the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board also took rides around the famed 2.5-mile oval in “event cars.”
The tour also stopped at the IMS Museum, seeing the Marmon “Wasp” that Ray Harroun drove to victory in the inaugural Indianapolis 500 in 1911 and the Andretti Autosport Dallara-Honda in which Alexander Rossi won the landmark 100th edition of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” in 2016.
Team Penske drivers Will Power and Josef Newgarden – both NTT IndyCar Series champions – met the delegation in the Pagoda, followed by a group dinner.
Pursuant to Executive Order 13845, "Establishing the President’s National Council for the American Worker," the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board will provide advice and recommendations to the interagency National Council for the American Worker on ways to encourage the private sector and educational institutions to combat the skills crisis by investing in and increasing demand-driven education, training and retraining, including training through apprenticeships and work-based learning opportunities.
