The 98th Running of the Indianapolis 500 was held on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Local Indiana favorite Ed Carpenter led the field from pole position for his second consecutive year. The race saw American Ryan Hunter-Reay hold off three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves in the closing laps by 0.0600 seconds, the second-closest finish in Indy 500 history
