Stage lengths have been tweaked slightly for the Lilly Diabetes 250 NASCAR XFINITY Series race Saturday, July 22 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Minor updates to the XFINITY Series race package for the race on the 2.5-mile oval at IMS are expected to alter the length of a fuel run. So to compensate, here are the new stages set by NASCAR for the race: Stage 1: Ends following Lap 30 Stage 2: Ends following Lap 60 Race: Ends following Lap 100 The previous format was 25-50-100. “Following the previously announced updates to the competition package for the NASCAR XFINITY Series event at Indianapolis, NASCAR will issue a rulebook bulletin that updates the stage lengths for the race,” said Scott Miller, NASCAR senior vice president of competition. “As we have with every race, we worked with teams on expected fuel and tire runs for the event, and have determined that stages ending on Lap 30, Lap 60 and Lap 100 will provide the best race for fans.” The addition of engine restrictor plates also is among the NASCAR-mandated technical changes to the cars to enhance competition this year in the Lilly Diabetes 250. Practice sessions for the Lilly Diabetes 250 will take place at 1 and 3 p.m. (ET) Friday, July 21. Qualifying is set for 12:45 p.m. Saturday, July 22, with the race starting at 3:30 p.m. that day.
