NASCAR XFINITY Series star Ty Dillon gave fans a special thrill today ahead of Saturday’s Lilly Diabetes 250 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. As part of the IMS “Kart with a Pro” challenge, more than 70 fans were able to log a free race against Dillon at Speedway Indoor Karting on Main Street in downtown Speedway. “You don’t get to kart against a pro on just any regular day so this was a really special treat for our fans,” said IMS President J. Douglas Boles. “Ty is an extremely talented and really fun guy and everyone who came out had a great time with him. The XFINITY Series is the place where NASCAR’s next names are made and Ty and his competitors are going to put on a great show this Saturday.” Dillon’s first XFINITY Series win came at Indianapolis Motor Speedway at the 2014 Lilly Diabetes 250. On Wednesday, he spent a few minutes with Speedway Indoor Karting owner and former Indianapolis 500 driver Sarah Fisher before driving in several heat races against fans and media. “I’ve known Sarah Fisher for a while now; what she has done with Speedway Indoor Karting is unbelievable. I had an absolute blast today racing around the track and the oval,” said Dillon, who will drive the No. 3 Rheem/Nidec/US Motors Chevrolet on Saturday. “It was also great meeting with some fans today and I hope we put on a show Saturday like we did today. “It’s always wonderful spending time with the folks from IMS and Doug Boles. I love coming to this racetrack and this city, for the history and the passion that IMS has for motorsports.” Before the karting challenge, he also participated in an IMS social chat with fans.
