For more than 100 years, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has stood for moving forward and breaking records. The IMS Solar Farm continues this tradition, and was recently recognized with an award at the NASCAR Green Summit. “We’re honored that NASCAR recognized our innovative spirit and commitment to sustainability at its Green Summit,” said IMS president J. Douglas Boles. “Our Solar Farm is unlike anything else in sports and helps us offer a brighter future for our community.” The IMS Solar Farm, which opened in July 2014, is the largest of any sporting facility in the world. It’s built on 68 acres and has 39,314 solar modules that generate 9.0 megawatts of power. Best of all, it helps provide affordable energy to 2,700 Central Indiana homes and offsets 10,288 tons of carbon annually. NASCAR’s Green Summit personifies the sanctioning body’s commitment to a better, more sustainable future. IMS hosts NASCAR’s Crown Royal 400 at the Brickyard annually. In 2016, the Crown Royal 400 at the Brickyard is joined on the IMS schedule by the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500, the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational.
