Jay Howard will return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time since 2011, having been announced on Monday as the driver of the No. 97 Bryan Herta Autosport entry in the 2015 Indianapolis 500. Howard’s car will feature primary sponsorship from Green1, an industry leader in 100 percent green cleaning technologies and agricultural solution products. “Although this is early to announce an Indy 500 entry, we wanted to put this exciting news out right away. We have been using Green1 in our shop for years now and believe in the quality of the product as well as the performance and safety it gives us,” Bryan Herta said. “We will be working closely in the upcoming months with the team at Green1 to seek additional partners who share Green1’s vision and core values to expand this program to additional races and venues with Jay at the wheel.” Howard, a native Englishman based in Indianapolis, won the 2006 Indy Lights championship. He finished 30th in the 2011 Indianapolis 500 in a Rahal Letterman Lanigan/Sam Schmidt Motorsports entry, while in 2010 he failed to qualify with Sarah Fisher Racing. In 2008 he began the IndyCar season in a Roth Racing car but was replaced for the Indianapolis 500. “It’s a relief to have another chance to put all that behind me,” Howard told RACER Magazine. “I have a lot of unfinished business in INDYCAR, which makes this partnership with Bryan and Green1 such a big thing for me. And we’re working on doing more than the Indy 500 together.” Bryan Herta Autosport won the 2011 Indianapolis 500 with the late Dan Wheldon. The team is expected to have a second entry in the “500” to announce at a later date. “Green1 decided to invest in the BHA Indy Car team and selected the historic Indianapolis 500 race event platform for several reasons – the track boasts the largest solar farm of any sports venue in the world, the racecars run on 100 percent renewable fuel, it is the largest single day sporting event in the world and BHA is a proven Indy 500 event winner,” Green1 founder Ray Drysdale said. “Bryan Herta, along with Jay Howard, are high class, high integrity individuals.”
