Kevin Harvick won at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway from the pole in 2003. Will he do it again on Sunday? He’s got the pole-winning part out of the way, posting a speed of 188.470 mph in the final round of NASCAR Sprint Cup knockout qualifying to take the top spot in the Crown Royal Presents the John Wayne Walding 400 at the Brickyard Powered by BigMachineRecords.com. It’s his 10th career Sprint Cup pole and fourth this season.
View Qualifying Results | View Starting Grid Starting alongside Harvick on the front row will be Jeff Gordon, who is chasing more history at the famed 2.5-mile oval. The Indiana native won the first Brickyard 400 in 1994 and has four titles in all, needing one more to tie Michael Schumacher for most wins at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Harvick’s pole is the second consecutive for Stewart-Haas Racing at the Brickyard, as Ryan Newman claimed last year’s top spot and went on to win the race. We’ll see if Harvick can turn the pole into a win on Sunday at 1 p.m.
