Cars that finished second and third in past Indianapolis 500's will be up for bid when Vince Granatelli auctions his entire racing operation, including a building, business jet and thousands of parts, during a sale Nov. 15 in Phoenix.

There will be four Indy-style cars, all in immaculate condition, highlighting the auction inventory. Included are the March that Roberto Guerrero drove to second place in the 1987 Indianapolis 500 and the Lola that Arie Luyendyk brought home third in the 1991 Indianapolis 500. Two other Lola cars that Luyendyk drove that year also are on the block.

Two of the Lolas include Ilmor Chevy engines. Guerrero's March is race-ready. All are painted in the day-glo red Granatelli colors.

Granatelli is liquidating his racing equipment and facilities at the suggestion of his father, auto racing Hall of Famer Andy Granatelli. Vince Granatelli dropped out of Indy-style racing as a car owner several years ago.

"He's been keeping the place going for nine years without a sponsor," Andy Granatelli said. "I urged him to sell it.

"The key thing is my son is an absolute perfectionist. All the parts, the race cars, airplane are in perfect condition. It's a real opportunity for someone to get into racing."

Andy Granatelli, owner of the car that Mario Andretti drove to victory in the 1969 Indianapolis 500, will be at the auction and looking forward to seeing many of his old friends.

Among other major racing items on sale are an $800,000 dynamometer, a Cosworth DFX engine and a Buick Indy V6 stock block turbo-charged engine.

A 1973 Learjet 25B-125 plane, fully maintained over the years, is another major item in the auction. So is Vince Granatelli's spotless 38,700 square-foot racing/office facility in Phoenix. Box upon box of racing parts and shop equipment also are on the sale listing.
