Prototype, GT Sports Cars From Rolex Series To Test Sept. 3 At IMS

Grand-Am Road Racing announced Aug. 13 it will sanction a test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Thursday, Sept. 3.
The top five teams in both the Daytona Prototype and Acxiom GT classes of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 were exclusively invited to participate in this historic event.
The Daytona Prototype teams set to test include defending champion Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates 01 Lexus Riley, No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Pontiac Riley, No. 10 SunTrust Racing Ford Dallara, No. 6 Michael Shank Racing Ford Riley, and the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Racing Porsche Coyote. The No. 12 Penske Racing Porsche Riley was invited but declined the invitation.
The GT Class teams expected to test include the No. 87 Farnbacher Loles Racing Porsche GT3, the No. 07 Drinkin' Mate Pontiac GXP.R, No. 57 Stevenson Motorsports Pontiac GXP.R and No. 70 Speedsource Syntec Castrol Mazda RX-8.

Fans and media are welcome to attend the test to see the teams testing on the F1 and Moto GP track configuration. The test will be used to gauge the reaction of fans, media and the teams to see the level of interest of holding a sports car event at the facility.
Additional details of the test will be announced in the near future.
The road course at IMS next will be used during the Red Bull Indianapolis GP MotoGP event on Aug. 28-30. The world's top motorcycle riders, including Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Americans Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards, will race on the 2.621-mile MotoGP circuit.
2009 IMS tickets: Established in 1909, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has long prevailed as an icon of motorsports excellence. Beginning in 2009, the Speedway celebrates its Centennial Era, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the facility in 2009 and the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race in 2011.
