The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum welcomes visitors to Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis with special hours during the week of the big game. Click here to view more information about the IMS Hall of Fame Museum.
The Museum, one of the highly visible collections in the world devoted to automobiles and auto racing, will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30 through Monday, Feb. 6. Super Bowl XLVI is Sunday, Feb. 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis. Several different tour options of the famous 2.5-mile oval – site of the annual Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR Crown Royal Presents The “Your Hero’s Name Here” 400 at the Brickyard races – and the facility will be available, weather permitting. The Coca-Cola Pit Stop adjacent to the Museum will offer light snacks and hot and cold beverages for purchase from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30 through Saturday, Feb. 4. Admission to the Museum is $5 for adults and $3 for ages 6-15. Children under age 6 are free. There is an additional fee for special track and facility tours. The IMS Hall of Fame Museum is located on the grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, 5 miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis. In 1987, the Museum and Speedway grounds were honored with the designation of National Historic Landmark. Approximately 75 vehicles are on display at all times, and among the featured attractions are the Marmon “Wasp,” which won the inaugural Indianapolis 500 with Ray Harroun behind the wheel, and more than 30 other Indianapolis 500-winning cars. Formula One and Le Mans-winning sports car machines also are on display, as is a vintage Indian motorcycle that raced in 1909 at the first motor race at IMS. An extensive trophy collection, including the famed Borg-Warner Trophy, the Crown Royal Presents The “Your Hero’s Name Here” 400 at the Brickyard trophy and the Red Bull Indianapolis GP trophy, is on display along with auto racing trophies, honors and awards from around the world. Visitors also can watch a 20-minute presentation of historic footage and Indianapolis 500 highlights in the 48-seat Tony Hulman Theatre. The Hall of Fame Museum also displays the equipment and methods used for timing and scoring the Indianapolis 500 from the first race to the 21st century. Constructed of pre-cast cement and Wyoming quartz, the facility encompasses 96,000 square feet of museum, retail and office space.
