On-Track Experiences

The Indy Racing Experience Driving Program gives each customer the chance to learn what it is like to drive a real Verizon IndyCar Series car that has competed in the famed Indianapolis 500. They’ll feel the rush of excitement as they follow a lead Verizon IndyCar Series car around the fabled Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Speeds are dependent upon each customer’s comfort level in the car.

The Indy Racing Experience Two-Seat Ride allows the passenger to experience speeds and g-forces previously available to only a handful of elite drivers. The purpose-built Dallara chassis allows a passenger to sit behind the driver, but in every other way, this is a true Verizon IndyCar Series car. The car is complete with an authentic racing engine that can power the car up to 180 mph.

A selected number of Indy Racing Experience days are available at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Call (888) 357-5002 or visit www.indyracingexperience.com for more information or to make reservations.

Miles Ahead Teen Driver Training

The Miles Ahead Teen Driving Intensive is a special instructional program conducted specifically for licensed teenage drivers and held exclusively at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Taught by professional racecar drivers from the Mazda Road to Indy and the IndyCar Series, teen drivers will receive professional, behind-the-wheel training in order to be better prepared for the hazards of driving on public roads.

On certain class dates you may combine your half-day Miles Ahead program with an IMS Grounds Tour, or an Indy Racing Experience Two-Seater Rider or Single-Seater IndyCar drive for the ultimate IMS family experience.

The Miles Ahead Teen Driving Intensive is conducted from early spring through late fall. You may register to attend on the company’s web site at www.bemilesahead.net.

Grounds Tours

The Grounds Tour is a favorite venue to entertain family, friends, or clients with a 60- to 90-minute visit rich in the history and landmarks of the Speedway. Highlights include:

  • A narrated bus ride around the famed 2.5 mile track in one of the Speedway’s comfortable tour buses, culminating in a photo stop at the Yard of Bricks. This your opportunity to soak in the atmosphere of the racetrack from the perspective of a driver, though at an entirely different speed, and kiss the bricks or get your picture taken in the middle of the track!
  • Knowledgeable staff of the Hall of Fame Museum will host your tour, providing you with a narrated historical journey through the decades at the Racing Capital of the World®.
  • Your journey includes visits to places normally open only to officials, drivers, and teams during race events. Those typically include the timing-and-scoring suite in the Pagoda, the Media Center, Victory Podium, Gasoline Alley garages, and one of the typical hospitality suites.
  • Your tour includes a visit to the Hall of Fame Museum, which can be started either before or after your bus journey. You can view a 20-minute video on the history of the track, visit our special exhibit on Dan Gurney and his Eagle race cars, see the cars that have won the Indianapolis 500 as well as Grand Prix, LeMans, Sebring, NASCAR, and other racing series. You also can enjoy the classic lines of a variety of antique passenger cars as well as a variety of race trophies and other memorabilia.

Tours are scheduled to depart from the Hall of Fame Museum at 9:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m., and 3 p.m. ET. We are in the same time zone as New York City and one hour ahead of Chicago, Illinois. The Hall of Fame Museum is located inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the infield.  The entry is just off of West 16th Street, through the tunnel at the Main Gate (Gate 2) on the south side of the track. The tunnel under the track is on the north side of the street. View Directions
