IMS, Race Fans Blanket Indianapolis with ‘500’-Themed Décor
IMS, Race Fans Blanket Indianapolis with ‘500’-Themed Décor

Each year, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway decorates Central Indiana with many reminders that the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge is upon us, creating undeniable energy and civic pride for all local Hoosiers.

While this year’s Indy 500 will look different, IMS is still decorating our city to celebrate the spirit of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” with select décor items and a new Indy 500-themed Shining a Light show on Monument Circle in collaboration with Downtown Indy, Inc.

The fan-favorite street sign takeover continues this month as major streets and avenues in downtown Indianapolis are being renamed after the stars of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES entered in this year’s Indianapolis 500. Make sure you take a safe and distanced stroll downtown and find your favorite driver’s street, and be sure to post a photo of yourself with your driver’s street sign on social media. Tag your driver and @IMS using the hashtag #Indy500!

If you’re not in Central Indiana, don’t worry! Check out this interactive map of downtown Indianapolis that puts you right in the heart of Indy and shows you each NTT INDYCAR SERIES driver's street sign.

New this year, IMS’ decorating efforts include the must-see Indy 500-themed Shining a Light show on Monument Circle. This stunning show, which is a seasonally-themed light presentation on Monument Circle and the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, will feature the Indy 500 all of August!

This light show in the heart of downtown Indy will give race fans a stunning show featuring special moments, drivers and traditions that define “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” From “Drivers, Start Your Engines” to the roar of Indy cars, the singing of “Back Home Again in Indiana,” the booming voice of Tom Carnegie and so much more, this three-minute show is a must-see for race fans.

IMS has decorated our home. Now, the rest is up to you!

Show our city how you celebrate the Indy 500 by decorating your home, backyard, neighborhood and anything else that needs the ultimate turbo boost heading into the Indianapolis 500. Display those checkered flags on your porch, that is if you’ve taken them down since May, hang signs supporting your favorite driver, decorate your living room with racing posters or give your sidewalk a racing-themed chalk makeover.

Whatever you do, make sure you create the ultimate racing-themed environment for when you tune in to the Indy 500 on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 1 p.m. (ET) live on NBC.

Be creative, be festive and, most importantly, show off your Indy 500 pride for everyone to see! Make sure you share your Indy 500 decorations by tweeting a picture of your décor and tagging @IMS, using the hashtag #Indy500!
