Cindric Paces Pennzoil 150 Practice for Team Penske on Hot, Historic Day at IMS

Austin Cindric started a big day for Team Penske on Friday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway by posting the fastest overall speed in two practices for the Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard.

Cindric led at 97.850 mph in the No. 22 Menards/Richmond Ford as the NASCAR Xfinity Series becames the first NASCAR series to compete on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course at IMS. He turned his best lap during the second practice this afternoon, with an air temperature of 93 degrees.

The starting lineup for the historic 62-lap race, which starts at 3 p.m. (ET) Saturday (live on NBC) was set by a draw due as part of the new format of NASCAR racing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cindric will start 10th.

Later in the afternoon, Will Power rounded out a strong day for Team Penske by earning the NTT P1 Award for winning the pole for the GMR Grand Prix for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, which starts at noon Saturday (live on NBC). It’s the first time the NASCAR Cup Series, NTT INDYCAR SERIES and NASCAR Xfinity Series are racing at the same facility on the same weekend. The Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 Powered by Big Machine Records for the Cup Series starts at 4 p.m. Sunday (live on NBC) on the 2.5-mile oval.

NASCAR Cup Series and Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge veteran AJ Allmendinger was second fastest overall in Xfinity Series practice with a lap of 97.392 that led the first session in the No. 16 Digital Ally Body Cameras Chevrolet.

Indiana native Justin Haley was third overall at 96.753 in the No. 11 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Chevrolet. Fellow Indiana native Chase Briscoe was fourth at 96.534 in the No. 98 Highpoint.com Ford, while Justin Allgaier rounded out the top five at 95.976 in the No. 7 Klondike Chevrolet.
