Tirico Arrives at IMS in Style after Unforgettable Drive with Andretti

NBC Sports host and play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico, host of the 103rd Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, arrived at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in style Wednesday, May 22 and got an unforgettable taste of what “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” is all about.

Racing legend Mario Andretti picked up Tirico on the tarmac at the Indianapolis International Airport and took him for the ride of his life through the streets of Indianapolis in a street-legal, two-seat Indy car. Andretti drove Tirico to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and dropped him off at the famed Yard of Bricks start-finish line.

“I’ve gotten to do so many things in sports, but that is the biggest thrill I’ve ever had in sports,” Tirico said. “It’s Mario Andretti, it’s Indianapolis, it’s May, and you get to stop here (at the Yard of Bricks). Are you serious? Every place I’ve ever been in sports, there’s nothing I’ve ever done that’s like that. It’s the coolest thing I’ve ever done.”

Tirico is synonymous with covering the biggest events in sports, such as the Olympics, the NFL, the Triple Crown of horse racing, golf’s major events and many more. This will be his first Indianapolis 500.

Fans can tune in to NBC’s inaugural live coverage of the event at 11 a.m. (ET) Sunday. The green flag is scheduled to drop at 12:30 p.m.
