HandleBar Hot Lap Revs Up Businesses for Workforce Week

On Friday, April 28, Monument Circle will host a uniquely-Indy race: the second annual HandleBar Hot Lap.  In celebration of Downtown Indy, Inc.’s Workforce Week and the 101st Running of the Indy 500, businesses are invited to form a team and pedal in races around Monument Circle in HandleBars. The field is limited to the first 48 corporate teams that register

Races will start at 11 a.m. April 28 and are structured as one-on-one laps around Monument Circle, including a pit stop for vehicle tweaks. The 48-team single elimination bracket will narrow down Indy’s best and culminate in a championship race between the top two teams. First rounds run 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., bringing back the top 16 teams to compete from 4 – 6 p.m.

The winning team receives the Grand Prize: a HandleBar $300 weekday (Monday - Thursday) Group Tour for up to 16 people; access to the VIP Hulman Terrace Club on an Indianapolis Motor Speedway practice day and Indy 500 swag pack and more TBA. The 2016 winning team was from TWG Development LLC.

“In the spirit of the Indy 500 and celebrating our talented Downtown workforce, this is a unique way to engage local businesses and to bring our city together for a little healthy competition,” said Bob Schultz, senior vice president of marketing, communication and events for Downtown Indy, Inc. “We look forward to seeing the energy and creativity each team brings to the race again this year.”

Spectators are invited to come out during their lunchbreak and witness the greatest spectacle in HandleBar racing. Food trucks will be on site, along with IPL’s Indy Free Tree Day and Lemonade Day.

“Last year’s event brought good-natured competition and Indy 500 themed fun to the Circle for a full afternoon of community engagement,” said Allison Melangton, vice president of events at Hulman Motorsports. “This year’s gathering will be even bigger, and I encourage the Downtown workforce to come out and participate.”

Registration is now open and is $250 per team of 10 riders; limited to the first 48 corporate teams. Book Now. Proceeds go to the Downtown Indy, Inc. Beautification Fund.
