It’s been a long time since there were so many good Indy car drivers still on the open market this late in the year.

And, while there’s been much speculation about where they’ll land, only a couple people know for sure where Oriol Servia, Justin Wilson, James Hinchcliffe, Sebastian Bourdais, Mike Conway, Takuma Sato, Alex Tagliani, Tomas Scheckter, Vitor Meria and Paul Tracy will call home in 2012.

But, if you look at things pragmatically (a big word for common sense I think), it’s pretty much a no-brainer.

So, keeping in mind that this is the educated guesses of a guy who flunked out of Ball State, here’s what should happen in the next couple weeks.

SERVIA TO FOYT: Anthony Joseph has one of the best sponsors on the circuit in ABC Supply so he can hire talent and not have to take money. Super Tex said last week he’s talked to Scheckter, Conway, Wilson and Servia but the likely hire is the versatile veteran from Spain who lost his ride when Newman/Haas shut down its Indy car operation. Fourth in the standings in 2011, Oriol remains the best bargain in open wheel racing because he’s quick, seldom puts a wheel wrong, doesn't want a fortune in salary and has plenty of chassis savvy – which comes in mighty handy with a new car on a one-car team. Get him an engineer he’s got some history with and A.J. can be back up front. It’s as easy as A-B-C.

HINCH TO GO DADDY: James Hinchcliffe had an impressive run to rookie of the year and was rewarded by losing his job at Newman/Haas. But he is the PERFECT fit for the GO DADDY seat at Andretti Autosport. Like the late Dan Wheldon, Hinch can take over the room with his personality and sense of humor and he’s a sponsor’s dream. Not to mention a damn fine racer. For a company that craves publicity, Hinch is a cinch.

WILSON STAYING: Now that Larry Curry has left the building, Wilson might be able to get an engineer of his choice at Dreyer & Reinbold. There’s no doubt Justin is still as good as anybody on a road or street course and, with the likely shortage of ovals in 2012, it makes him even more valuable. He did a nice job of developing the Panoz in Champ Car in 2007. Dennis Reinbold and Robbie Buhl as starved for a win as JWill so he’s the smart choice.

SEABASS TO SPORTS CARS: The former Champ Car star showed he’s still a factor last year just driving part-time for Dale Coyne and would come back fulltime under the right conditions. But Peugot wants him badly and they’ve offered a contract they want his signature on.

TAG TO HERTA: This year’s polesitter at Indianapolis was wearing a smile and his Bowers & Wilkins hat last week at the PRI Show in Orlando. One would think that bodes well for Bryan Herta and Steve Newey.

CONWAY STAYING?: Gave Michael Andretti an impressive victory at Long Beach in 2011 but was inconsistent much of the season. The team wants to run four cars and Mike is best buds with Marco so, with some sponsorship, he could stay right there.

TOMAS AND D&R: Scheckter is chomping at the bit to run a full season with the new Dallara and show people he hasn’t forgotten how to road race (where he grew up in Europe). He’s got a little bit of sponsorship, a lot of hunger and some history with Dreyer & Reinbold. He could learn some things from Wilson as well.

SATO TO RAHAL: The Honda connection should seal this deal.

MEIRA TO RAHAL?:The team has always had a soft spot for Vitor, and so has Honda. Rahal needs money for the second car, so that could complicate Meria's plans to return.

TRACY TO SHANK: Mike Shank wants an experienced driver for his first tour through the IZOD INDYCAR series and PT wants one more full-time ride. It could happen. Conway could also end up at the Ohio-based team.
