Danica Patrick Pays Tribute To Dan Wheldon In Texas

Danica Patrick will honor the memory of two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon in the NASCAR Nationwide race Nov. 5 at Texas Motor Speedway by wearing a specially-painted helmet and driving the No. 7 car with a paint scheme that features the "Lionheart" logo on the car's hood.

Both items will be donated to the eBay auction of racing and other items, with proceeds directed to the Dan Wheldon Family Trust Fund. CLICK HERE

"Thank you to GoDaddy. They have partnered up with me to pay tribute to Dan and what a great champion he was and what a great guy he was," Patrick said. "My hope is to do everything possible to come together and honor Dan and support Susie Wheldon and the kids during this tragic thing."

Patrick said she feels as if Wheldon is riding with her inside the stock car.

"It feels comforting to be honest,” said Patrick, who also will donate her prize money from the race to the Dan Wheldon Family Trust Fund. “I feel like I have an angel in a way. When they pop the hood open and work on the car and to see "Lionheart" on the car and that is all I'm staring at as they make changes that's a cool thing."

Despite moving to NASCAR full time, she has hopes of competing in the Indianapolis 500.

“I love to do Indy," she said. "In my opinion, it's the greatest race in the world. I have so many memories and feelings and emotions and memories that I want to create so no, that won't affect my decision."
