MotoGP Returning To Indianapolis In 2011

The Red Bull Indianapolis GP MotoGP motorcycle race, featuring the intense action and over-the-top personalities of the MotoGP World Championship, will return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in August 2011.
The fourth annual MotoGP event at the “Racing Capital of the World” is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 26 through Sunday, Aug. 28.
“We’re thrilled to welcome back the stars and machines of MotoGP in 2011,” said Jeff Belskus, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation president and chief executive officer. “This is a unique weekend that our fans enjoy, bringing the international flavor and great action of MotoGP to the Speedway. It has been a successful race for the last three years, including a great partnership with Red Bull, and we are working hard to continue to grow the event.”
Said Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta: “The extension of the agreement for a further year allows all parties involved to continue providing a superb weekend of racing at Indianapolis next season. It permits all possibilities to be explored at the end of 2011 when the current contractual agreement with the MSMA (Motorcycle Sports Manufacturers’ Association) and IRTA (International Racing Teams Association) is reviewed, as MotoGP continues to develop into a new era in the sport in 2012.”
Ticket orders for the 2011 Red Bull Indianapolis GP will be accepted starting Monday, Aug. 30 at www.imstix.com.
Race Day general admission tickets cost $40, with Friday general admission $10 and Saturday general admission $20. A three-day general admission ticket is $60. A Friday-Saturday general admission ticket is $20 if purchased before Sept. 13, 2010, $25 afterward.
Children ages 12 and under will be admitted free any of the three days of the event when accompanied by an adult with a general admission ticket.
Race Day reserved seat prices will start at $70.

There will be plenty of interesting stories and drama next August at Indianapolis among the riders who compete on the exotic, 200-mph-plus motorcycles of MotoGP, including:
•The first time that the legendary seven-time MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi will race for the iconic Ducati marque at IMS. Italian Rossi is moving to the mythical Italian factory team in 2011. American World Champion Nicky Hayden is expected to remain at Ducati in 2011, creating a MotoGP “super team.”
•2010 American rookie phenom Ben Spies will race at IMS for the factory Fiat Yamaha Team as teammate to this season’s runaway points leader, Jorge Lorenzo. Spies has been the top rookie in MotoGP this season riding for the satellite Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team.
