Due to a forecast of sustained winds in the 20-mph range, the Founders Race, part of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Centennial Era Balloon Festival presented by AT&T, has been moved from Saturday morning, May 8 to a 7:30 a.m. launch Sunday, May 9.
The balloon ‘glow’ activities on Saturday, May 8 – including the Gin Blossoms concert and fireworks – are still on schedule, with the gate opening at 5 p.m. For Saturday night’s activities, live music gets underway at 5:15 p.m., the 33-balloon “glow” runs from 8-9:30 p.m., and fireworks are scheduled for 9:15-9:30 p.m.
Admission and parking are free; fans should enter the IMS grounds via Gate 9A, located on Georgetown Road north of 25th Street.
The infield will not be open to the public at the time of the Founders Race launch Sunday. Fans are welcome to view the launch from IMS-owned parking lots outside the facility, including Brickyard Crossing.
