Travis Engen had a Sunday to remember at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Engen, from Weston, Connecticut, won overall in four classes of Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) competition Sunday during the final day of the Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course at IMS. Veteran vintage racer Engen triumphed in the Historic GT/GTP Enduro, the Formula Ford Reunion and the second feature races of the weekend in Group 9 and Group 5/7/11. In the Historic GT/GTP Enduro, Engen drove his No. 2B 2005 Audi R8 LMP prototype to a 42.255-second victory over veteran sports car racer Andy Pilgrim in the No. 53 Ferrari 458 GT3. Engen then hopped into the No. 31 2001 Lola T97/20 and won the Group 9 second feature race by 5.437 seconds over the No. 07 2006 Swift JMS17 CP driven by Jacek Mucha. Engen had almost no time to celebrate before climbing behind the wheel of the No. 1A 1970 Chevron B17b and beating 10-time Indianapolis 500 starter and sports car legend Geoff Brabham’s No. 6 1971 Brabham BT35-26 by 1.363 seconds to win the Formula Ford Reunion. The fourth victory of the day for Engen came back behind the wheel of his No. 2B 2005 Audi R8 LMP prototype, in which he captured the Group 5/7/11 race by 6.699 seconds over Mucha’s No. 07 2006 Swift JMS 016 CP. Big Machine Label Group Founder, President and CEO Scott Borchetta finished off a successful weekend at the Racing Capital of the World with a victory and a second-place result. Borchetta swept Group 6 for the weekend, bookending his victory Saturday in Race 1 by winning Race 2 on Sunday in his No. 05 1972 Chevrolet Corvette. Borchetta also finished runner-up in the second race for Group 10/12 in his No. 22B 1981 Buick Regal, trailing winner Bruce Raymond’s No. 24 1985 Pontiac Firebird. Big Machine is the title sponsor of the Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard Powered by Florida Georgia Line NASCAR race Sunday, Sept. 8 at IMS. IMS President J. Douglas Boles also enjoyed a return to the driver’s seat this weekend, teaming up with co-driver Glenn Andrew to finish first in class and 11th overall in the No. 9A 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix in the one-hour Vintage Enduro race. Marc Miller won the Trans Am by Pirelli TA2 class feature race Sunday afternoon. Miller drove his No. 40 Dodge Challenger to a 1.879-second victory over Dillon Machavern’s No. 77 Ford Mustang. Miller held off Machavern in a four-lap shootout to the checkered after a late restart. Tony Buffomante finished third in his No. 34 Mustang. 2008 Indy Lights champion and former NTT IndyCar Series driver Raphael Matos was running third early in the 42-lap race when persistent engine problems forced him into pit lane and to withdraw. 1992 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year Lyn St. James, who was injured in a crash during the Vintage Race of Champions (VROC) Charity Pro-Am on Saturday at IMS, was released Sunday from IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She sustained minor injuries in a crash that forced the end of the VROC race Saturday and was kept overnight for observation. “The care was excellent,” St. James said. “I am grateful to everyone involved, from the time of the incident to my release from the hospital. “I'm really happy to be up on my feet and feeling pretty good. I'm really thankful that all of the safety equipment that I wore and what was on the car functioned as it was designed to. I am walking away from a pretty big hit.”
