Ferrucci To Drive in Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard

NTT INDYCAR SERIES veteran Santino Ferrucci will show his versatility by racing in the Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard NASCAR Xfinity Series race Saturday, July 30 on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
Ferrucci, from Woodbury, Connecticut, will drive the No. 26 Toyota Camry for Sam Hunt Racing on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course at IMS. It will be his first Xfinity Series start on a road course and his eighth career Xfinity start. He made his debut in the series in 2021 with Sam Hunt Racing.
“I’m super excited to be back with Sam and the team,” Ferrucci said. “It’s been a long time coming since last year, and I’m excited to be back behind the wheel of an Xfinity car with Toyota. I think the momentum from the past two years has been really good. I’ve been in a good spot mentally, and I am driving the best I ever have.
“I think having the experience of both INDYCAR and NASCAR is very helpful. It will be easier to go to an Xfinity car this year instead of last year’s transition from an Xfinity car to an Indy car and vice versa.”
2019 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year Ferrucci, 24, has made four career NTT INDYCAR SERIES starts on the IMS road course, with a best finish of seventh in the GMR Grand Prix in May 2019. He also has finished in the top 10 in all four of his Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge starts, including 10th last May for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.
“Mine and Santino’s story is special because we both started working together when there were a lot of crossroads in our respective careers,” team owner Sam Hunt said. “People don’t realize how hard Santino works behind the scenes, and how he has to fight for every ounce of funding he gets.
“He’s an ultra-talented racer and a personality the sport needs. He doesn’t race to make friends; he races to pay his bills. I’m excited to have him come back to SHR after his fourth consecutive Indianapolis 500 top-10 finish.”
