The Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational will be part of a new Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) Vintage Race of Champions (VROC) series in 2019, series officials announced. A round of the VROC will be one of the highlights of the sixth Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational, which moves to a new date in 2019 at IMS – Aug. 1-4. The VROC series was created due to the success and popularity of the SVRA Charity Pro-Am races that started in 2014 at IMS. The other two events in the VROC series in 2019 will take place at Virginia International Raceway and Road Atlanta. Drivers will continue to race in 1963 to 1972 vintage Corvettes, Camaros, and Mustangs of SVRA “Group 6” A and B Production, with trophies presented to pro and amateur drivers. All three races will benefit charity. The Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational Charity Pro-Am will benefit the Morgan Adams Foundation, which supports laboratory and clinical research in the area of pediatric cancer, with an emphasis on tumors on the brain, spine, and central nervous system. “The pro-am races have not only been a great benefit to charity, but they have proven to be a hit with fans,” said SVRA CEO Tony Parella. “They get unprecedented access to their heroes from IndyCar, NASCAR, Trans Am, IMSA, and short track racing, many of which have become frequent competitors in our races beyond the pro-am events.” Many of the professionals who have competed in the Charity Pro-Am races are veterans of the former International Race of Champions (IROC) series. Al Unser Jr., Bill Elliott, Bobby Labonte, Ron Hornaday, Mike Skinner, Paul Tracy, Willy T. Ribbs, and Jimmy Vasser are among the legends who have participated in previous years. SVRA Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational tickets will go on sale this month. Stay tuned to IMS.com and IMS social channels for details.
