IMS, Indy Women in Tech Championship Presented by Guggenheim To Support Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts during Tournament Week

The Indy Women in Tech Championship presented by Guggenheim announced Sept. 5 plans to support Hurricane Harvey relief efforts this week during the LPGA event at Brickyard Crossing Golf Course.

The #IWiTCHAMP will donate $5 of the first 2,000 daily tickets purchased Saturday, Sept. 9 to support those affected by the disaster. Spectators are also encouraged to bring donated items to be given to those affected in Houston.

“To support the restoration from the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey and to honor Dr. Mae Jemison, a Houston native and keynote speaker of the inaugural IWiT Summit, Guggenheim and the IWiT Championship wanted to do our part to assist those in need,” said Dan Towriss, president and CEO of Guggenheim Life and Annuity. “Dr. Jemison has given back so much for communities around the country, and we want to do the same for her hometown of Houston.”

LPGA players will receive “Indy Loves Houston” wristbands to wear during the tournament to show their support for the people of Houston. The wristbands also will be given to all spectators who purchase daily tickets Saturday. Those who have already purchased weekly tickets can purchase a wristband for $5. Proceeds from wristband and tickets sales will benefit the Houston Mayor's Fund for storm relief, the Greater Houston Community Foundation (ghcf.org).

In addition, a collection site at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be available for spectators to contribute donated goods Thursday through Saturday of event week. The site will collect five key items: bottled water, diapers, baby wipes, juice (non-glass) and snacks that expire after Sept. 30, 2017.

The collection location at IMS will support a citywide donation drive led by the “Hoosiers Helping Houston” committee and The United Media Network of Indianapolis. For more information, please visit HoosiersHelpingHouston.org.

“I’m looking forward to seeing our donation trucks fill with supplies in the coming days, and I’m encouraged this event will raise important funds for families impacted by Hurricane Harvey,” said J. Douglas Boles, Indianapolis Motor Speedway president. “Hoosiers are always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, and the efforts of the IWiT Championship and Guggenheim are a worthy example of this approach.”

IMS fans have an additional way to assist Houston residents with the purchase of a special “Race4Houston” T-shirt unveiled by the Verizon IndyCar Series and AJ Foyt Racing before last weekend’s INDYCAR Grand Prix at the Glen. Net proceeds also will go toward recovery efforts supported by the Greater Houston Community Foundation. AJ Foyt Racing is based near Houston.

Indy Air Show Continues Tradition Of Aviation 100 Years Ago At IMS
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has long been a birthplace of innovation. But automobiles weren't the only vehicles to break records at IMS, as daring pilots soared to new heights in airplanes high above the Speedway in June 1910. The 2010 Indianapolis Air Show at Mt. Comfort Airport June 11-13 is a descendant of the ground-breaking events at IMS 100 years ago, when aviation pioneers such as the Wright Brothers and Walter Brookins spent a week at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
