Gordon Caps Wild Ride At Richmond With Final Chase Spot
Jeff Gordon could have made the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup the easy way by winning the Federated Auto Parts 400 on Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway. But when Gordon’s No. 24 Chevrolet was a handful at the beginning of the race, he was forced to grab the final wild-card position the hard way – by finishing far enough ahead of Kyle Busch to make it in on points.

The “Race to the Chase” in NASCAR Sprint Cup could be called racing’s longest heat race. It starts in February at the Daytona 500 – the first of 26 races that determine the 12 drivers that will compete over the final 10 races for the Sprint Cup in the “Chase for the Championship.”

A Few Words About Team Orders
I was surprised that Penske Racing didn’t appear to impose any kind of team orders near the finish of last weekend’s GoPro IndyCar Grand Prix of Sonoma. With Ryan Briscoe leading the race and championship leader Will Power running second late in the race, swapping places in an attempt to boost Power’s points lead seemed like a no-brainer.

Dani Pedrosa Wins Second Red Bull Indianapolis GP
Spain’s Dani Pedrosa became the first two-time winner in the Red Bull Indianapolis GP by capturing the 2012 edition of the annual MotoGP race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Pedrosa, who also won the event in 2010, finished the 28-lap race ahead of 2009 winner Jorge Lorenzo. Andrea Dovizioso earned the final spot on the podium finishing third.

Reigning World Champion Casey Stoner earned his fourth victory of 2012, winning the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix on Sunday, July 29 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Stoner rode his Repsol Honda to a 3.249-second victory over championship leader Jorge Lorenzo’s factory Yamaha.
