1987, in a backup Penske car....Al Unser sr.
was crusing around, hanging in there....as
Mario stormed away to over a 1 lap lead in the
field....100 miles, 200 miles, 400 miles,
it was still all about Mario...Lap 170....
Fuel Pump...and Mario dnf'd,
Just 25 laps to go, Roberto Guerrero led in a
beautiful bright Orange Day glow Granetelli STP racer
then he stalled (twice) in the pits....
and made up an entire laps andcame along sailing to
take the led with laps dwindling down
Golly, Gee Mr. Lucky himself Al Unser Sr.
Listen I'll give him the 1970 500, but don't tell me luck wasn't on his side
BIG TIME over Donohue, Lloyd Ruby, and Joe Leonard who had
it over on him in'71, and as well as Mario, Danny Ongais,
and Tom Sneva in '78....as Al had yet another lucky old day.
Even soom of the best hve said it, haven't they
"I'd rather be Lucky, than good"
All Unser Sr. Indy Biggest ever Luck Ducky
