A 1909 Indian motorcycle (left) and Valentino Rossi MotoGP bike represent the past and present at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Aug. 14, 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the first day of motorized racing at IMS - a series of motorcycle races. The core sample (center) on the Speedway's famed "Yard of Bricks" contains 100 years of the IMS surface: from the original tar and crushed rock surface, to the famed bricks, to generations of asphalt that have carried the world's most famous drivers and riders. The second running of the Red Bull Indianapolis GP MotoGP race is Sunday, Aug. 30.
