    1961 Introducing our FRONT ROW

On the outside JIM HURTUBISE 1 lap track record holder from 1960 (149.6MPH) was making his 2nd indy 500 start....took the early lead led 35 laps in all in the '61 500 but dnf'd at 102 L (I think AJ apprecited that)

Middle DON BRANSON a carreer 8x starter at the Indy 500 ...who may have had the worst luck of any '61 starter in just 2 minutes after this photo he was OUT of the race compleing just 1 lap and "finihsing" 33rd!

Pole for the 2nd year in a row EDDIE SACHS...4x a previous stater, he had never finished the 500 before today...Sachs led 44 laps....raced, dueled for the led with AJ for all Foyt was worth over the final 100 miles...and finsihed a career best 2nd place.
