When it comes to the 2010 Brickyard 400 logo, older is better.
The official event logo for the 2010 Brickyard 400 was unveiled Oct. 12, two days before tickets go on sale for the 17th annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series classic Sunday, July 25, 2010 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The logo features an asymmetrical design with a dominant color of dark green and accents of gray and black, and includes the familiar IMS Wing and Wheel.
When the IMS Creative Services Department started to devise ideas for the 2010 logo, a design created for the 2006 race was revived. That design was scrapped in 2005 when Allstate became the title sponsor of the race, requiring a new look that could incorporate Allstate's corporate logo and colors.
"The original was just an effort to make it have movement, look aggressive and contemporary," said IMS Creative Services artist Brad Walters, who created the logo design. "It was about here and now. I really wanted to get a nice, balanced asymmetrical feel to it."
Fellow IMS Creative Services artist Declan Doyle adapted Walters' original concept to many different color schemes until the prominent color of "racing green" - a color rarely used in IMS event logos - was selected.
Fans will have the opportunity to be among the first to wear the new Brickyard 400 logo when 2010 "400" merchandise goes on sale Wednesday, Oct. 14 - the same day tickets go on sale for the race. Merchandise will be on sale in the IMS Administration Building lobby from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and fans can also register to win a trip for two to the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards ceremony in Las Vegas on Dec. 4.
Brickyard 400 fans can have their photo taken with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship trophy all day, and an Elvis impersonator from 10 a.m.-2p.m.
2010 Brickyard 400-logoed merchandise will also go on sale Oct. 14 in the IMS gift shops in the Hall of Fame Museum and online at www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com.
