Longtime Indianapolis 500 team owner Carl Haas received the prestigious Autosport John Bolster Award on Dec. 7 during the 2008 Autosport Awards in London.
The Autosport John Bolster Award is presented in honor of Autosport magazine's legendary technical editor and reflects a lifetime of technical excellence in motorsport by an individual or group. Haas accepted the award on behalf of his partnership with late Newman/Haas Racing team co-founder Paul Newman for their services to motorsport.
"It is a great honor to receive the Autosport John Bolster Award," Haas said. "The dedication of talented drivers and team members has enabled us to achieve many goals over the years. On behalf of the team, I would like to thank Autosport magazine for their recognition of our accomplishments."
Newman/Haas, which became Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing in 2007, has earned 107 victories, 107 poles and eight championships in North American open-wheel racing since its founding in 1982. N/H/L won two races in its debut season in the IndyCar Series in 2008, one victory apiece by Graham Rahal and Justin Wilson.
Other stars who have raced for the team include Mario Andretti, Michael Andretti, Nigel Mansell, Paul Tracy, Christian Fittipaldi, Cristiano da Matta, Bruno Junqueira, Sebastien Bourdais and Oriol Servia.
