INDYCAR Grand Prix Features Two Days of On-Track Action

Verizon IndyCar Series on-track action at the INDYCAR Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course will consist of two days, Friday and Saturday, May 12-13, to create a more action-packed event. All three levels of the Mazda Road to Indy development ladder will still have track activity on Thursday, May 11.

Verizon IndyCar Series competition at the INDYCAR Grand Prix will be more action-packed in its two days, said Doug Boles, Indianapolis Motor Speedway president.

“We believe that a Friday-Saturday weekend is better for our fans, our teams and our partners,” Boles said. “Thursday has historically been a difficult day for fans to attend and, with this being the fourth year of the event, drivers don’t need the extra day of track time to prepare for race day.

“And we continue to believe our decision to avoid hosting the INDYCAR Grand Prix on Mother’s Day Sunday is the right approach. Most importantly, the best part of May is that Indianapolis Motor Speedway fans get 11 days of Verizon IndyCar Series on-track activity to enjoy and celebrate as we lead up to the 101st Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.”
