Marc Marquez is focused this weekend on extending his remarkable MotoGP season to a perfect 10-for-10 at the Red Bull Indianapolis GP. But on Friday night the defending world champion took some time away from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to visit the Indiana State Fairgrounds and serve as Grand Marshal of the AMA Indy Mile Flat Track race. Marquez, who believes in flat-track racing as a great foundation for controlling MotoGP motorcycles, had his picture taken on a dirt bike customized for him with No. 93 livery and unveiled an AMA-inspired helmet that he will be wearing the rest of the weekend at the Red Bull Indianapolis GP. Kenny Coolbeth Jr. won the race by 2.47 seconds on a Harley-Davidson. “I saw that they are really, really fast. It’s incredible, the top speed, especially of the strongest guys,” Marquez said on Saturday after landing on the pole for the Red Bull Indianapolis GP. “It was incredible in Turn 1 and Turn 2. They go in maybe 160 (km/h) full gas and the wall was there so close. So it was impressive to see. And nice. So I enjoyed it a lot.” Former MotoGP champion Nicky Hayden of Owensboro, Ky., was in attendance with his brother and fellow racer Roger Hayden, among other riders participating in this weekend’s racing at IMS also spent Friday night at the Fairgrounds. “It was crazy. I never saw something like that,” said MotoGP rider Pol Espargaro. “In Spain we have some flat tracks but not as big as that was.”
