The Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Kroger Co.’s Central Division announced the “Race to End Hunger” campaign today at the Kroger store located in Speedway, Ind. This new campaign will allow Kroger customers to donate money, at check-out, to help feed the hungry in local communities across 21 Indiana counties. IMS President J. Douglas Boles was joined by Kroger Division President Jeff Burt and Cynthia Hubert, president and CEO, Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana to formally kick-off this new campaign. “We are pleased to be associated with Kroger and Gleaners Food Bank for the ‘Race to End Hunger’ initiative,” said Boles. “IMS is proud to support important causes such as hunger relief and quality organizations like Gleaners.” IMS will match the first $10,000 in associate and customer donations. The “Race to End Hunger” campaign results will be announced during the “Kroger Super Weekend at the Brickyard” July 24-27 at IMS by the presidents of both organizations. “Kroger is deeply committed to feeding our hungry neighbors,” said Burt. “Kroger’s partnership with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway combined with support from our general local associates and customers will help provide the necessary financial resources to Gleaners Food Bank to feed our hungry Hoosier neighbors.” “These funds will greatly help us provide food to feed the hungry and I am extremely proud of the support we receive from Kroger and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” said Hubert. More than 40 Kroger stores throughout the Indianapolis area will participate. Kroger customers will be given the opportunity to contribute to the “Race to End Hunger” in scan increments of $1, $3 and $5. All donations will be given to Gleaners Food Bank. *** 2014 ticket information: Ticket information is available for the remaining events in 2014 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway – the Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational, Kroger Super Weekend at the Brickyard and Red Bull Indianapolis GP.
