The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will continue its legacy as an incubator and proving ground of automotive innovation for more than a century through the 100th Anniversary Indy 500 Emerging Tech Day on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at IMS.
Some of the best, brightest young minds in America will display innovative renewable technologies for the automotive industry at the Emerging Tech Day. The event will feature exhibition competition at IMS by alternative-power vehicles in the Formula Hybrid and American Solar Challenge series and the Purdue evGrandPrix.

Founded and organized by Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College, challenges college and university students to design, build and race high-performance, plug-in hybrid vehicles. Building on the Formula SAE program, Formula Hybrid adds an extra level of complexity: fuel efficiency.

American Solar Challenge
The American Solar Challenge is a competition to design, build and drive solar-powered cars in a cross-country time/distance rally event that covers between 1,200 to 1,500 miles between multiple cities. Purdue evGrandPrix competitors will race electric-powered karts in a race similar to the famous Purdue Grand Prix kart competition. The Purdue evGrandPrix was launched in 2010 as part of the electric vehicle initiative by Purdue University, located in nearby West Lafayette, Ind. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway would like to invite you to help us celebrate health and wellness of the planet, body, and soul! The Yoga 500 and the silent auction will are helping to promote health and well-being. All of the proceeds from the Yoga 500 Silent Auction will benefit Riley Hospital for Children. So bid on an item you love and help a Riley patient at the same time.
At 2 p.m. roll out your yoga mat and become part of Indy's largest yoga class of its kind. Heather Thomas from the Yoga Center of Indianapolis will be leading the Yoga 500. Be one of the first 100 people to show up and receive a special yoga prize!
Global Inheritance is an organization that focuses on making others aware of global issues. The Global Inheritance Energy Playground is a fun way to learn about energy and will be featured at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Emerging Tech Day. The energy playground includes bikes, swings, a merry-go-round, hamster wheels, an energy seesaw, an energy well, and an energy dance floor. What's the catch? All of these are self-powered. Children and fans of all ages may swing, pedal, or run to create energy.
A Global Inheritance Recycling Store will also be featured on May 7th. Your dollar bills aren't worth anything at the Recycling Store. To purchase the items you desire, you must pay with recycable bottles and cans or biodegradable cups. So be sure to collect your recycables and bring them to the track and purchase items that could include autographed merchandise, video games, and DVDs.
Also taking place May 7 at IMS will be the Centennial Era Balloon Festival featuring colorful hot-air balloons from across the United States. Make plans to bring the entire family out for the Balloon Glow which is slated to start at 6:00 p.m. MORE.
From the hours of 12pm - 6pm, Emerging Tech Day visitors will have the opportunity to ride in two hybrid vehicles sponsored by Allison Transmission. These vehicles showcase Allison's H3000 and H40/50 EP hybrid transmission technology.
