The Indianapolis Motor Speedway represents an international icon rich in history, excitement and innovation. For generations, fathers, sons, mothers and daughters have gathered at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to experience the family fun at one of the most exciting sporting events in the world.
Today, IMS plays host to three major annual events: The Indianapolis 500, Brickyard 400 and Red Bull Indianapolis GP. Each represent a different flavor of entertainment and all kids 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult with a general admission ticket.
The Indianapolis 500 carries almost 100 years of tradition and features the fastest drivers in the world. The most prestigious race in worldwide motorsports, the field of 33 IZOD IndyCar Series drivers race 500 miles to earn a spot on the Borg-Warner Trophy.
The Brickyard 400 features the stars of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in one of the most popular NASCAR races of the year. Since 1994, the Brickyard has challenged the top names of NASCAR and has proven to be a magnificent barometer of excellence, with all but two winners of the Brickyard also winning Sprint Cup championships during their career.
The Red Bull Indianapolis GP features two-wheeled action from the world's premier form of motorcycle racing. Unlike the two oval races at IMS, the best riders in the world compete on the 16-turn road course in the Red Bull Indianapolis GP.
Regardless of your choice of event, there are family-friendly viewing areas and fun for everyone. Kid's can also join the IMS Kid's Club to enjoy many child-oriented activities that are scheduled during events, such as autograph sessions, balloon artists, slot-car racing, pedal-car racing and much more -- including the great food that kids love to eat at the track!
Youth education also is enhanced at IMS through the 500 Festival & Indianapolis 500 Education Program, which strives to educate and foster creativity in Hoosier fourth-grade students by using the historical, social and economic significances of the 500 Festival, Indianapolis 500 and the thriving motorsports industry of Indiana in the curriculum.
The award-winning program provides a complimentary Indiana Academic Standard-compliant curriculum to fourth-grade teachers from schools across Indiana in subjects including Indiana history, social studies, health, language arts, science, physical education and math.
Classroom lessons are followed by an optional Study Trip (field trip) to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in April or May, when students tour the IMS Hall of Fame Museum and trackside landmarks such as the Pagoda and Victory Podium.
Students apply lessons learned in the classroom with on-site programming and experiences designed to further educate them on the significance of the 500 Festival and Indianapolis 500’s heritage and place in Indiana history. The program is offered to students in the fourth grade as this is the year students learn Indiana history.
