Online Auction With IMS Prize Packages To Benefit At-Risk Horses
Sunday, March 08, 2009
VIP packages donated by Mari Hulman George, the chairman of the board of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, are the featured items in an online auction starting Monday, March 9 to raise funds for The Humane Society of the United States equine protection programs.
The three packages are for the 2009 Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 24, the 2009 Allstate 400 at the Brickyard race on Sunday, July 26 and the inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP MotoGP race on Sunday, Aug. 30. Included are seats in Mari Hulman George's luxury suite that are only available to the public through this opportunity, hotel accommodations, a police escort to the race, special behind-the-scenes VIP access and more.
For more information and to bid on the items, please visit humanesociety.org/indy500. The auction ends at noon (ET) on Wednesday, March 18.
Proceeds will be used to aid HSUS in helping neglected horses, promoting responsible horse ownership and combating equine abuse and cruelty.
"We are ever grateful to Mari Hulman George for her continued support of our equine protection efforts," said Keith Dane, director of equine protection for The Humane Society of the United States. "The proceeds from these packages and her other generous personal contributions have enabled us to help hundreds of horses."
The Indy 500 packages George has auctioned went to an HSUS program to assist horse welfare organizations impacted by drought and the economy. In 2007, George's financial support allowed The HSUS to rescue 30 horses destined for slaughter, when the last remaining horse slaughterhouse in the country was forced to close its doors.
Winners of recent auctions raved about the race VIP package at IMS.
"What an experience! Everything, from the beautiful suite, fantastic food and drink, amazing access to the garage and pit areas, and very fun police escort was just incredible," said two of last year's winning bidders, Michelle and Ken Shields. "It was a wonderful trip that we and our children will always remember. It was also a great way to support our favorite charity, The Humane Society of the United States."
The Humane Society of the United States is the nation's largest animal protection organization — backed by 11 million Americans, or one of every 30. For more than a half-century, The HSUS has been fighting for the protection of all animals through advocacy, education and hands-on programs.
