Prototype, GT Sports Cars From Rolex Series To Test Sept. 3 At IMS
Grand-Am Road Racing announced Aug. 13 it will sanction a test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Thursday, Sept. 3. The top five teams in both the Daytona Prototype and Acxiom GT classes of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 were exclusively invited to participate.

IMS President Chitwood Leaving After Brickyard
Indianapolis Motor Speedway President and Chief Operating Officer Joie Chitwood announced July 20 he was stepping down from his position after this week's Allstate 400 at the Brickyard and returning to his home state of Florida. His last day with IMS will be Thursday, Aug. 6.

Executive Management Changes At Hulman & Company, IMS
The Board of Directors of Hulman & Company and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced June 30 that a new management team comprised of veteran IMS executives W. Curtis Brighton and Jeffrey G. Belskus will head the Hulman-George companies effective July 1. Brighton (above left) will become president and CEO of Hulman & Company. Belskus (above right) will become president and CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation. They will replace Tony George, who will no longer serve as president and chief executive officer of the Hulman-George companies but will remain a board member of the Hulman-George companies.

IMS 'Brickyard Red' Wine Wins Medal In National Judging
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway 2006 "Brickyard Red" Paso Robles Red Varietal Blend, produced by the EOS Estate Winery, recently won a bronze medal in the 2009 Tasters Guild International Wine Judging. "Brickyard Red" is one of two IMS-themed reserve wine offerings released in December 2008 by EOS Estate Winery, located in Paso Robles, Calif., joining the Indianapolis Motor Speedway 2006 Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon.

IMS Executive Belskus Receives Honorary Doctorate At Rose-Hulman
Indianapolis Motor Speedway executive Jeff Belskus received an honorary doctorate degree Saturday, May 30 at the 131st commencement ceremonies of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind. IMS Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Belskus and Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels received doctor of human letters degrees from Rose-Hulman President Gerald S. Jakubowski, who also presented bachelor's or master's degrees to 384 students during the ceremonies.

Sharp Bumps Into Indy Field With Dramatic Last-Gasp Run
Scott Sharp provided the high drama Sunday, May 10 on Second Day Qualifying, earning a spot in the Indianapolis 500 with just seconds remaining. Sharp qualified 20th at 222.162, bumping E.J. Viso, to take the 20th position on the grid. Davey Hamilton ended up on the bubble at 221.956.

Field Of 33 Balloons Set For IMS Centennial Era Balloon Festival
Paying honor to the traditional starting field of 33 cars for the annual Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, a field of 33 balloons and pilots will compete in the three-day Centennial Era Balloon Festival presented by AT&T Real Yellow Pages on Friday, May 1 to Sunday, May 3 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Hot air balloon pilots hailing from 13 states, stretching from California to Michigan, will launch from the IMS infield in both corporate-sponsored and unsponsored "sport" balloons.

World's Tallest Balloon Enters IMS Centennial Era Balloon Festival
The famed Energizer Bunny "Hot Hare" Balloon - the world's tallest hot air balloon - will be among the many colorful participants in the Centennial Era Balloon Festival presented by AT&T Real Yellow Pages on May 1-3 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. IMS President Chitwood Receives National 'Forty Under 40' Honor
Indianapolis Motor Speedway President and Chief Operating Officer Joie Chitwood was named a recipient of the SportsBusiness Journal Forty Under 40 Award, a prestigious, national program that identifies and honors the most promising young executives in sports business younger than age 40. Chitwood and the 39 other winners will be honored at a black-tie banquet Friday, April 3 at the Mandarin Oriental in Miami.
