SCCA Runoffs at IMS Attract Record Total of 1,000-Plus Entries

More than 1,000 entries have been received for the Sports Car Club of America 2017 National Championship Runoffs on Sept. 28-Oct. 1 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the first time the most prestigious amateur racing event in America is being contested at the Racing Capital of the World.

Some of those entrants have not yet met qualifying criteria for the Runoffs, so the overall number of entries could drop. But the previous Runoffs record of 709 cars, set in 2004 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, almost certainly will be eclipsed this year at IMS.

The winner-take-all National Championship Runoffs will consist of 19-lap or 40-minute races on a 15-turn, 2.592-mile road course at the legendary IMS. The course layout consists of 10 right-hand and five left-hand turns, as well as a main straight 3,700 feet long. The configuration includes portions of the track previously used by Formula One for the United States Grand Prix and currently used by the Verizon IndyCar Series for the INDYCAR Grand Prix.

Spectator passes for the 54th SCCA National Championship Runoffs at IMS are on sale now through the Speedway’s website, www.ims.com. Four-day admission passes, providing access Thursday through Sunday, can be purchased for $60 per person. Single-day admission for Thursday is $15, and single-day passes are $25 for Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
