Marquez Wins 2015 Red Bull Indianapolis GP

Marc Marquez remains the man at the Red Bull Indianapolis GP.

The 22-year-old Spaniard won for the third consecutive time in MotoGP and fifth time overall at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, passing Jorge Lorenzo with three laps to go in the 27-lap main event and holding on for the win by .688 of a second in the No. 93 Repsol Honda.

Marquez won from the pole, just as he did in 2013 and 2014 at Indianapolis, though on Sunday he stalked Lorenzo for most of the race before making his move. Lorenzo led the first 24 laps on his No. 99 Movistar Yamaha, the most of any rider in a single Red Bull Indianapolis GP.

Championship leader Valentino Rossi finished third, getting the best of a race-long battle with Dani Pedrosa on his No. 46 Movistar Yamaha. Rossi came up from eighth on the starting grid.

In earlier action on Sunday, Spain’s Alex Rins won from the pole in Moto2 and Belgium’s Livio Loi won in Moto3. In the Moto3 race, Loi won from the 26th starting spot after opting for slick tires from the start while nearly every other rider began on wet tires and then switched early in the race.
