Wide Range of Activities on Tap for Red Bull Indianapolis GP Weekend

From high-flying Red Bull skydivers to a bustling marketplace to the fastest two-wheeled athletes in the world, the eighth Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Aug. 7-9 is shaping up to be the best yet.

The stars of MotoGP will practice, qualify and race over the three-day weekend, with Sunday’s races sure to thrill on the 16-turn, 2.591-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 classes will compete, and in the premier class Marc Marquez will try for his third consecutive win at Indianapolis and fifth consecutive overall (counting a pair of Moto2 wins in 2011-12).

MotoAmerica, the premier U.S.-based motorcycle road racing series, will also race at IMS in the penultimate event of its first season. Multiple classes will compete including the flagship Superbike class, featuring a rules package based on a combination of AMA Superbike chassis and 2015 World Superbike Championship engine specifications. An autograph session for fans will be held from 12:35-1:15 p.m., featuring stars such as four-time AMA Superbike champion Josh Hayes, former Daytona SportBike champ Cameron Beaubier and former AMA 600 Supersport champion and Owensboro, Kentucky, native Roger Hayden.

And those won’t be the only two-wheel stars on the property, as three Red Bull riders will also be performing demos in the infield three times daily throughout the weekend. They are:

  • Aaron Colton (Street freestyle Demo), in a discipline that involves manipulating a motorcycle through an array of acrobatic maneuvers. One of the most decorated street freestyle riders in the world, Colton became the youngest XDL National Stunt Riding champion at age 15. He went on to win multiple national championships and compete in AMA Pro Road and Flat Track Racing as well as supermoto and motocross.
  • Terry Adams (Flatland BMX Demo), in a riding style that’s on smooth, flat surfaces and all about balance and concentration. Adams is a pioneer of the sport with two X Games gold medals and two NORA Cup (Number One Rider Award) titles. Adams has appeared on the TV show “Glee” and introduced new audiences to Flatland BMX in a 50-stop U.S. college tour.

While those Red Bull riders thrill on the ground, members of the Red Bull Air Force will do the same in the air after jumping from a plane 5,000 feet above the Earth. Mike Swanson, Jon DeVore and Amy Chmelecki are part of a team assembled from the most accomplished and experienced skydivers, B.A.S.E. jumpers and paragliders on the planet. They are scheduled to perform early Sunday afternoon before the MotoGP race.

On Saturday evening after on-track activity, fans can walk the Pit Lane for an intimate and up-close view of the exotic, 1000cc prototype motorcycles that will compete in the MotoGP class during the weekend.

Also open in Gasoline Alley garages all weekend is the Vendor Marketplace presented by Westfield Powersports, a popular display area for aftermarket products. Motorcycle enthusiasts can view and purchase gear from top motorcycle equipment and accessory companies.

Participating vendors include Antigravity Batteries, Autograph Collectibles, DFW MotoLiberty, Dainese, Dorna, IMS, Motul USA Inc., National Moto+Cycle, Roadracing World Magazine, Mayhem Industries Inc., The Service Pavilion, Hayden Brothers and Westfield Powersports.

Kids will have plenty to do at the IMS Kids Zone in the Moto Midway. Bounce houses, prizes and music will entertain children of all ages. Also in the Moto Midway is the American Supercamp, providing demo rides to children on 50cc and 90cc motorcycles (riders under 32 inches in height may not ride unaccompanied by a parent/legal guardian).

Adults can even learn how to ride a motorcycle. The Bonnier Motorcycle Group is hosting a “Try A Motorcycle” display just north of the Corner 9 Grandstand throughout the event, experienced riders can bring a friend or family member and receive a free digital issue of a Bonnier Motorcycle Group magazine.

Experienced riders can also demo the newest Suzuki motorcycles Friday through Sunday (motorcycle endorsements and appropriate riding attire required). Routes to be determined and rides will be led by qualified instructors.
